Union Township Fire Station #49 needed more space for new + larger fire trucks. The single-story, 4200 sq ft addition expanded existing bays and included space for a new aerial truck bay. Several doors were added between the station’s office + living space to the apparatus bay to shorten response times. The addition was constructed with masonry walls + bar joist metal deck roof.

The team assessed the existing building’s structure for the increased stress the addition would have on it, including evaluating snow drift from the new, taller structure onto the existing station’s roof. The addition was also designed in accordance with a higher wind load typical for essential structures.
