Bowling Green State University The Robert W. + Patricia A. Maurer Center
Bowling Green, Ohio

The Robert W. + Patricia A. Maurer Center is home to the Allen W. + Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business. It was designed for the future of higher education + business, with spaces to collaborate + gather inside, outside, in-person + virtually; classrooms meant for immersive experiences; and even includes a mock Wall Street trading floor.

The structure is also unique; the project renovated the historic, concrete Hanna Hall and added a three-story steel-constructed modern space. The structural design overcame undocumented construction in the historic structure, and the addition of light monitors in the new structure that bring in natural light and affected the roof design. The William F. + Peggy L. Schmeltz Atrium is literally where old meets new: Hanna’s historic facade to one side + a modern office aesthetic to the other.

The Maurer Center sits at the gateway to the university’s academic core + adjacent to Schaefer renovation project: University Hall.
