This new Girl Scouts facility is situated on 220 wooded acres at the Battelle Science + Innovation Campus at Camp Ken-Jockety. The purpose of the facility is to introduce + inspire the next generation to pursue STEM education + careers.
The two-story structure has a myriad of programming: a welcome area, offices, meeting rooms, rooftop space, outdoor deck with fireplace, event space, and a makerspace with flexible lab spaces. The design uses garage doors to connect spaces in + out of building.
The two-story portion of the structure was constructed with steel; the single-story portion is a pre-engineered metal building. Schaefer’s team produced a creative framing design in order to support the complex geometry + multi-story open space brought forth by the architect + owner.
