Deer Park’s Chamberlin Park is home to seasonal concerts + community activities, an event center, tennis courts, baseball fields, playgrounds, and daily recreational traffic. The city set out to enhance the thriving park with a new two-way cantilevered canopy pavilion. The open-air music venue, situated in the center of Chamberlin Park, will offer a dual-sided entertainment experience during events, and can be used as a shaded place to gather when no formal events are planned. The team provided designs for the foundation, cross-laminated timber (CLT) roof + steel supporting structure. CLT was chosen for aesthetics + the city’s preference for low carbon materials.

Schaefer’s team met the challenge of unusually long + unequal roof cantilevers that created a torsionally-eccentric structure while maintaining an elegant appearance.
