Schaefer provided the structural engineering design for four new shelters in Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks Scioto Grove. Two of the shelters can hold 16-20 people, while the other two smaller shelters hold 8-10 people. Each shelter is positioned along a park trail for easy accessibility + to take advantage of park views.

Three of the shelters are relatively open with a semi-private screen + bench along one side. They’re framed from a combination of wood + steel. The fourth shelter is a restroom which was constructed with a wood roof supported by CMU walls.

This project was awarded the AIA Ohio Design Award for Newly Completed Buildings, Additions, Remodelings, Renovations, Restorations.
