Located on the north side of Peden Stadium, Ohio University’s Perry + Sandy Sook Academic Center provides the necessary study and support spaces for the university’s students. The new athletic academic center was constructed with a combination masonry and metal frame system.
The ground floor area caters to game days; students and fans will access ticketing and restrooms, and there will be additional space for utilities. The second floor is expected to include large study rooms, small study rooms, tutoring rooms and staffing rooms. It also features a flexible classroom space opening onto a 13 ft cantilevered patio overlooking the stadium.
The trapezoid-like structure fits between the stadium’s existing seating, completing a U-shape open to the river. It required additional consideration when designing the lateral system. The 10 ft tall parapet and screen wall, with a potential future roof filming platform, required unique framing designs.
