Schaefer performed a level 1 site assessment of the roof structure at the Ohio Statehouse. A level 1 assessment includes a visual observation to identify signs of structural deficiencies or distress.
The team reviewed two areas of the statehouse: the original building completed in 1861 and the Senate Building completed in 1903. The original building’s roof structure is predominately tongue + groove wood planking supported by wrought iron angle purlins + double-angle roof beams. The Senate Building’s roof structure is segmental formed concrete arches supported by steel beams.
Schaefer provided an assessment report and outlined recommendations on further assessment and/or repair where warranted.
