Hyatt Place Downtown Phoenix is a new eight-story hotel with 238 guest rooms, a conference room, fitness room, restaurant + bar. It was constructed with post-tensioned concrete, steel, masonry + cold-formed metal framing.

Schaefer became the first to permit Geopiers within city limits, an economical foundation solution for the tight urban site. By integrating a cantilevered foundation system, the team avoided complex redesign + analysis of existing below grade construction at an adjacent property.

The team provided a structural support system to reduce the typical post-tension slab thickness from eight inch to seven inch in thickness, which solved height + budget limitations. It eliminated interior single-story building columns + expansion joints by supporting the roof system vertically + laterally from the second level concrete structure.
