Phase II called for an addition to the existing Rinchem Company, LLC structure. The chemical + gas distributor collaborated with Schaefer and the rest of the design + construction team to deliver a 57,000 sq ft hazardous materials handling + storage industrial warehouse that mirrored its phase I facility.
The warehouse is designed for H3 + H4 chemical storage. It includes flammable storage with 32 ft clear heights, corrosive material storage with 40 ft clear heights, a loading dock, and a mechanical chiller + generator yard that services both phases.
It was constructed with tilt-up concrete walls and steel roof + braced frames, and was delivered without disrupting production at the phase I facility. Schaefer designed new openings in the existing facility’s concrete walls to connect the two phases.
Schaefer aided in the research + development for addressing fire separation between phases I + II. The new building roof was designed to extend over the existing roof to meet fire separation wall requirements between buildings. Additionally the size + geometry between the new + existing building relations required custom diaphragm designs.
