Help us welcome Olivia to Schaefer! Read below to get to know her.

1. Most prized possession/what you couldn’t live without (outside of family and friends)?

My sewing machine; My grandma taught me how to sew + gifted it to me when I was thirteen.

2. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy crafting, particularly sewing and embroidery. I like to rock climb as well!

3. What would you do with $1 million?

I would use some of the money to travel, especially with my loved ones. Living a few hours away from my family puts more value on any time spent together, so I would love to make more memories with them.

4. What is the most extreme thing you have ever done?

I started to rock climb with a pretty big fear of heights.

5. What’s your favorite day of the week?

I am always a big fan of Fridays, but Mondays are a pretty close second. I started volunteering at Save the Animals Foundation a couple years ago, and when asked what day I wanted to help out, I chose Mondays because they were never a day I enjoyed. Now I look forward to hanging out with cats when Monday comes around.

6. If you weren’t in structural engineering, what would you be?

If I wasn’t in engineering, I would love to work in horticulture. My first couple of jobs were working in greenhouses, and it was great to be surrounded by plants all day. I also got a lot of time in the sun!

7. Why you chose to work/live in Cincinnati?

I originally came here to attend the University of Cincinnati, it’s one of the few schools in the state with Architectural Engineering. Cincinnati has so many things to do + so much great food, I enjoy still having new experiences after five years of living here.

8. What’s on your bucket list?

My current bucket list item is to see mountain goats at Glacier National Park.

9. What is a skill that you don’t have, but wish you did?

I wish that I was able to woodwork. I took a class in college, but I am hoping to learn more so that I can start making furniture.

10. If you could design a structure anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would love to design a structure in the UK, probably Scotland. The architecture there is stunning and it would be amazing to design a structure to maintain the history of the country.
