Staff Spotlight: Luke Nisley, PE, SE

Luke Nisley joins Schaefer as a project leader in Indianapolis, Indiana

1. Favorite sports and teams?

I always root for Notre Dame Football and most other Indiana-based teams.

2. Meet my family.

I’ve been married to my wife, Elisabeth since 2008. We have two kids, Mia in 4th grade, and Alston in 2nd grade.

3. What are your hobbies?

I like board games, 3D-Printing, and racing video games – I even have the racing seat, wheel, pedals, and can do it in VR.

4. If you weren’t in structural engineering, what would you be?

I’ve always joked that in another life, i’d be a professional racing driver.

5. What’s on your bucket list?

I’ve always wanted to do a track day in a high-powered car.

6. What would you do with $1 million?

I would pay off the house and buy a dream car.

7. What’s your signature dish to cook for family and friends?

It’s nothing special, but my kids really like my French Toast, so I enjoy making that.

8. Why you chose to work/live in Indianapolis?

Indy is a large city, but not too large, so you can still practice structural engineering at a meaningful level; it’s within about 2 hours of my family; and we have more roundabouts than any other city or comparable region in the country (once you’re used to them, you can’t live without them)!

9. Fun fact about yourself.

I have approximately 80 first cousins… on my dad’s side alone.

10. What market/material is your specialty and why?

Cast-in-place concrete, generally (2-way PT, Shear Walls, etc.). Half of my career was spent in Washington, D.C., which is a known as a, “concrete town”.
