A structural detail showing the use of technology in structural engineering design.Marshall Carman, PE, SE contributed an article for the April issue of STRUCTURE magazine: Using Software to Control Anchor Design. The feature highlights new technology and its impact on structural engineering. Over the past decade the provisions for anchor design have grown from a few paragraphs of text and tables to forty-eight pages of provisions and commentary. Several software applications have been developed to help the structural engineer cope with the expanded requirements for structural anchor design. Different applications will provide significantly different results for what may appear to be the same input. Marshall discusses the underlying assumptions within each application, and why the results vary. We hope you take the time to read Marshall’s article.
