Meet Matt, our newest structural engineer in our Columbus office!
1. Why you chose Schaefer.
I chose Schaefer for several reasons. First, I wanted to be a part of a well-respected and well-established firm that has a positive impact on the community. Secondly, Schaefer’s diverse project portfolio excites me. It promises opportunities for me to learn and grow as an engineer.
2. What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Dishes left in the sink.
3. Why you chose to be a structural engineer.
Math has always been one of my stronger points. As a child, I enjoyed playing with building blocks and LEGOs. Before college, I thought I wanted to be an architect, but I quickly changed my mind after doing some more research and going through orientations at colleges. I realized I enjoyed the problem solving and analytical side of the fence more.
4. If I wasn’t a structural engineer I would be…
A meteorologist, probably a storm chaser. Yes, I find weather interesting…
5. What are your hobbies?
I like to stay active, whether it’s exercising, biking, playing sports or just being outside. I usually have a hard time sitting around the house.
6. My most prized possession (outside of family and friends).
My golf clubs.
7. Meet my family.
I come from a family of five: my mom, Sue, my dad, Mark, my sister, Stephanie, my brother, Mike, and me. I am the oldest and Mike is the youngest. Last June, I added one more to our family when I married my wife, Courtney.
8. Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My family is my biggest inspiration. They have always been there for me and have supported me throughout my entire life. I don’t know where I would be without their love and support.
9. Where did you go to school?
University of Toledo
Brooklyn High School
10. Favorite sports and teams.
Unfortunately, I’m a Cleveland sports fan: Browns, Cavaliers and Indians. I am also a Buckeye fan at heart.
