Staff Spotlight: Andrew Barone, PE

Welcome to Schaefer, Andrew! He joins our Columbus, Ohio office’s structural engineering team as project engineer.

1. What’s your signature dish to cook for family and friends?

I cook made to order omelets – I love breakfast!

2. If you weren’t in this profession, what would you be?

I would be either an architect or a woodworker.

3. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy woodworking, DIY home improvement projects, cooking, paintball, trap shooting, and scale model building and painting.

4. What inspired you to pursue your profession?

I’ve always had a strong affinity to building things, especially with LEGOs and K’NEX as a kid. The initial dream was to become an architect who would design awe-inspiring works of art, but later evolved into structural engineering.

5. Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

While parents are naturally the biggest champions of their children, mine provided me with every opportunity to explore the world and try new things. Always supportive and encouraging, they taught me to always be open, honest, and hard working. They are testaments of how working hard in life pays off in the long run.

6. What’s on your bucket list?

I want to eat fugu fish, travel Europe and get to the top of Burj Khalifa.

7. If you could design a structure anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I want to design a project in Russia; I prefer cold climates and would have an irrefutable excuse to visit the country.

8. Quote to live by.

Just keep moving forward.

9. Where are you from?

I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.

10. Fun fact about yourself.

I do not like strawberries.
