Zac Wilson joins our team as a design engineer in our Cincinnati, Ohio office.
1. If you weren’t a structural engineer, what would you be?
I would be the host of an education show about structural engineering and construction projects going on around the world and the people who design and build them.
2. Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My granddad is my biggest inspiration because he is a man of unshakeable faith, limitless wisdom and great resilience. He has dedicated his whole life to serving others. He’s also a great story teller. He inspires me everyday.
3. Fun fact about yourself.
I rowed for Georgia Tech Crew for three years. The last year, three of our boats, including the boat I was in, won the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta.
4. What is the most extreme thing you’ve ever done?
Scuba diving with my dad in water so cold we could feel our hearts slow.
5. What’s your favorite day of the week?
Tuesday doesn’t get enough love which is precisely why I like it; everything (movies, food, etc.) is cheaper on Tuesday.
6. Meet my family.
I met my wife, Kelly, after being set up on a blind date by a friend at Georgia Tech. It was my birthday so it is the easiest anniversary to remember. We live in Beavercreek, Ohio with our labradoodle, Belle.
7. Quote to live by.
Matthew 6:34 – Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
8. What is a skill that you don’t have, but wish you did?
I wish I could sing. Knowing how to play guitar is great but, unless you are Chet Atkins, people would rather listen to a singer.
9. What is your biggest pet peeve?
When my sister was a kid, she was asked this question on a third grade assignment. She took the question a bit too literally, and thought they were asking what peeved her about pets. Her answer was: “Licks me.” I think it might be the best answer to this question I’ve ever heard, so I’m stealing it.
10. If you could design a structure anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would have said designing a structure in my hometown of Garner, North Carolina; but, within the first week of working at Schaefer, I already had that opportunity! So, I’d have to go with my second choice: a structure on the Georgia Tech campus.
