The $120 million Carle & Heart Vascular Institute is a twelve-story 350,000 sq ft addition to the existing Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Construction began on the first nine floors in spring 2011 with the remaining floors planned for some time in the future. The facility includes a full basement for mechanical needs, a second floor that includes operating rooms/labs, and a fourth floor of mid-story space housing air handling units and electrical services. Floors six and above are patient floors. Schaefer is using Revit Structure for the construction documents and to facilitate coordination between the owner, construction manager, and design team.
